Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

The short version. We use your child's photo for one thing: drawing them into their coloring book. The photo is deleted as soon as the book is finished, or after 7 days if you don't order. We never sell it, share it for anyone else's use, or use it to train AI. You can delete it yourself at any time before you order.

What we collect, and why

Card payments are handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We never see or store your card number.

Faces and photos

We use automated face detection only to find where the face is in your photo, so we can crop it. We do not create or keep face templates or "faceprints", we do not use facial recognition to identify anyone, and we never sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from a photo or anything derived from it. We ask for your written permission (the box you tick) before we use a photo, and we delete it on the schedule above - always well inside the limits set by laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

Who helps us

We share information only with the companies that help us make and deliver your book, only for that purpose:

Drawing services (Replicate and/or OpenAI) receive the photo crop and the page descriptions to draw the pictures. Replicate deletes what we send within an hour. OpenAI keeps it for up to 30 days only to watch for misuse, and doesn't use it to train its models.
Stripe processes payments. Lulu prints and ships printed books, so it receives the finished book and your shipping address. Our hosting provider runs the website and stores files while we work on them.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.

We don't sell or "share" personal information for advertising, and we don't use advertising cookies or trackers. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your device's IP address.

Children

This website is for adults. Parents, guardians and gift-givers upload photos and place orders; it isn't meant to be used by children, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used it, contact us and we'll delete the information.

Your choices and rights

You can delete your photo and preview yourself at any time before ordering. You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your information - email [contact email] and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Virginia, Texas or Illinois), you may have more rights under your state's law; we honor these requests for everyone.

Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections, photos are stored privately on encrypted disks while we work, and access is limited to what's needed to make your book. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep as little as possible, for as short a time as possible.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above. We'll never use a photo you've already given us in a new way without asking.
